Eastport – Alfred “Grit” Lester Morang Sr., 84, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Calais Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Grit was born in Eastport, November 2, 1922, son of the late Clyde and Gertrude (Frost) Morang. In November of 1947, he married Marylou Malloch in Eastport. Grit was employed as a supervisor for Mearl Corp. in Eastport for over 30 years. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army. Grit was an active member of Blakey Memorial United Methodist Church in Eastport, as well as the Ralph A. Raye Post 558 V.F.W. and the Fred Mitchell Post 11 American Legion. He enjoyed boating and spending time with his family and friends. Besides his parents, Grit was predeceased by three sisters and five brothers. Surviving are his loving wife of almost 60 years, Marylou; two sons, Alfred “Skip” Morang Jr. and wife Marilyn of Charlotte, and David Morang and wife Vicki of Eastport; four grandchildren, Patricia Graffam and husband David of Levant, Timothy Morang of Brewer, David Morang Jr. and fiancé Shannon of Edmunds, and Daniel Morang and wife Julie of Edmunds; nine great-grandchildren, Jesse, Regan, Adam, Rhiannon, Mallory, Kaylie, Ashlee, Gabby and Peyton; a special family friend, Judith Cleaves of Perry; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Bayside Cemetery in Eastport with Pastor Margaret O’Mally officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Grit’s memory may be made to Blakey Memorial United Methodist Church, Eastport, ME 04631. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, Eastport.
