Obituary for Alfreda Mae Morrison

Baileyville – Alfreda Mae Morrison, 82, passed away at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor on Friday, February 18, 2011. Alfreda was born in Plantation 21 on May 8, 1928, daughter of the late James and Harriett Polk. She was employed for Wareknitters in Calais for over 30 years. Alfreda was a member of People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville. She also was a 55 year member of Riverside Rebekah Lodge #140 where she served as Past District President, Past District Deputy Marshall, and Past Nobel Grand. Alfreda often spoke of the fun hours working with the “kitchen crew” on fundraisers at her beloved lodge. She will be remembered as a lady who put her husband and children first, her talent as a seamstress and cook, and especially for her famous yodeling. Alfreda had a joking spirit and her laughter and happy-go-lucky smile will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Harold Morrison; and her only granddaughter, Tammy Ann Acheson. Surviving are her two children, Norman Morrison and his wife Roberta of Detroit, and Betty Rice and her husband Ronald of Calais; grandsons, Norman II, Franklin, Dominick, and Dylen Morrison; three great-grandsons, twins Jake and Josh Morrison, and Ethan Luciano; many nieces and nephews, including 2 special nieces, Judy Lincoln Murray and Norma Jean Polk; special friends Alice White of Baileyville and the friends and staff at New Horizons, where she resided for the last 2 years, and Sunrise Dialysis in Eastport. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Alfreda’s life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville. Burial will be held at Woodland Cemetery in the spring. Donation’s in Alfreda’s memory may be made to Friends of Sunrise County Dialysis, 19 Vanasse Rd., Eastport, ME 04631.
