Calais – Alice Viola Williams, 90, went home to be with our Lord on Friday, February 26, 2010 after a long illness. Alice was born in Baileyville on July 21, 1919, daughter of the late Arthur and Eileen (Johnson) Gaddis. She attended Baileyville schools and served her country in the Women’s Army Corps during WWII. Alice owned and operated a boarding home in Calais for many years. Her home was open to all in need. She was a faithful member of the Calais United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by her loving husband Orland Williams in 1984; as well as two sisters, Shirley Gaddis and Ruth McLaughlin, and a daughter-in-law, Jeannette (Crowe) Williams. Surviving are her daughter, Peggy Rayner and her husband Dan of Fort Kent; two sons, Richard Williams of Talmadge and Joseph Williams and his wife Vera of Richmond, VA; sister Gloria Smith of Baileyville; brother Raymond Gaddis of Calais; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
