Allen William "Skip" Polk Jr.

Baileyville - Allen William Polk Jr, AKA Skip, 66, peacefully passed away in sleep with his wife by his side on January 12th, 2019 at his home in Baileyville after a courageous battle with cancer. Allen was born in Calais o. December 3rd, 1952 to Allen William Polk Sr and Freda Polk (Downing).

Skip joined the Marines sometime in 1971, shortly before joining the military he met the love of his life Heather Carolyn Hurshman. While on their first date he proposed. Skip served in the Marines until sometime 1973 after an Honorable Discharge. When he returned home to Calais, he married Heather where they raised there two boys. Skip attended WCCC and got his degree in Culinary Arts. Skip was a chef in various restaurants around Calais and Baileyville. Skip also worked at the Woodland Pulp Mill until he retired in January 2015.

Skip was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys Wayne and Michael, his brothers and grandkids. Skip also belonged Knights Of Pythians and was member and past commander of the American Legion in Calais. Skip also loved bowling at the Spednic Club and St. Croix Bowling Club .
Allen(Skip) was predeceased by his parents, maternal, paternal grandparents, aunts and uncles and many pets. Surviving are his wife Heather of 46yrs, his sons Wayne (Christy) and Michael (Jennifer). His brothers Ralph (Valerie), Richard (Deborah), Dennis, Eric, David (Debra), Christopher (Toni), Kevin. Sisters Rita (Robert), Lorna (Kevin). Grandchildren Zachary, Gabrielle, Benjamin, Joshua and Harper. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was also survived by his canine Shelby and his cat Michelle.

A military graveside service will be in late Spring at the Calais Cemetery. The date will be announced later. In lieu of flowers family and friends make donations to Cancer Care of Maine in memory of Allen ( Skip) Polk.

Arrangements will be done by Mays Funeral Home.
