Aloysius Joseph “Dike” Sopiel, aged 84, peacefully passed away on October 28, 2024 at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on March 27, 1940, at Peter Dana Point, Dike was the son of Arthur and Elizabeth (Dana) Sopiel.

Dike dedicated much of his life to serving his community, fulfillment in his role as the custodian for the Indian Township school—a job he genuinely treasured. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for hunting, fishing, and scenic drives. He also found connection and support through attending AA meetings and events, where he forged lasting friendships.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his daughter Anne Sopiel of Indian Township, three beloved grandchildren—Cody Sopiel, Andre Paul, and Justice Bassett—and his dear siblings, Sylvia Sockabasin and Billy Sockabasin, both of Indian Township, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and Godchildren, along with numerous dear friends who appreciated his gentle spirit and unwavering kindness. Dike was preceded in death by two daughters, Stacy and Juanita, whose memories will forever be held close to his heart.

Visitation will be begin 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the St. Ann Parish Hall, Peter Dana Point. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Roland Berngeh 11 a.m. Monday, November 4, at St. Ann Church, Peter Dana Point. Burial will follow in the Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
