Obituary for Alvin S Daggett

Calais – Alvin S. Daggett, 89, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Eastside Rehab in Bangor. Alvin was born in Danforth on May 30, 1924, son of the late Frank and Lila (Weeks) Daggett. Alvin graduated from Danforth High School and enlisted into the Army Air Corps where he served as an airplane mechanic. Following his service, he returned home and helped his father in the family business working road construction. While working on the roads in Baring he met his future wife, Dorothy Stewart, whom he married in Calais on July 8, 1955. Alvin worked for Eastern Maine Electric Coop, initially as a power plant operator and later as a mechanic and dispatcher. He was a member of Calais United Methodist Church, a life-member of the American Legion in Danforth where he was a member for over 60 years, served as a Boy Scout leader, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Alvin will be remembered by many for always having a smile and willing to lend a hand to those in need.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Eureta Daggett and Frances Beal and husband Paul; brothers-in-law Earl Seavey and Ralph Stewart and wife Eleanor. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy Daggett; two children, Kathy Craig of Calais, and David Daggett and wife Lorraine of Calais; three grandchildren, Joseph Craig and wife Laura of Calais, Brielle Walsh and husband Will of Dallas, TX, and Robert Daggett of Dallas, TX; two great-grandchildren, Landon Lewis and Jordyn Craig; a step-grandson Steven Serrano of Morris, IL; and two step great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Zachary Serrano.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Calais United Methodist Church, 849 Main St., Calais. A celebration of Alvin’s life will be held at the church 11 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2013. Burial will follow in Baring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alvin’s memory to Calais United Methodist Church Building Fund, 849 Main St., Calais, ME 04619. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
