Calais – Ann Elizabeth Baker, 91, passed away Friday, June 21, 2019 at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. Ann was born in Milltown on December 24, 1927, daughter of Walter and Pauline (Wade) Barnard.
After graduating from Calais Academy, Class of 1945, Ann moved to Texas where she worked as a secretary. She eventually returned home and worked as a secretary for the Calais School District, mostly with the Calais Elementary School, retiring in 1979. On September 8, 1952, she married her love, Austin Baker. Ann was a Communicant of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Calais where she sang with the choir and was a member of the Ladies’ Sodality. She enjoyed being a member of the local birthday club, knitting, crocheting, bowling and enjoying a good laugh. Ann loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.
In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband, Austin Baker; and two brothers, John and Merrill Barnard. Surviving are her four daughters, Paula Stover and husband Kent of Wesley, Lucy Baker of Perry, Tina McGregor and husband Garnet of Little Ridge, NB, and Marcia Doyle and husband Charlie of Calais; four grandchildren, Shane McGregor and wife Chrissy of Little Ridge, NB, Stacy Whittier and companion Ottie Bannister of Little Ridge, NB, Erik Clark and wife Danielle of Huntersville, NC, and Julie Allen and husband Nathan of Holden; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister Jean Pforezhimer of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
