Pembroke & Calais – Arlene C. Rose, 86, passed away on Tuesday, June 02, 2009 at Atlantic Rehab & Nursing Center in Calais. Arlene was born in Pembroke on August 15, 1922, daughter of the late William and Jennie (Sawyer) Carter. She graduated from Pembroke High School, Class of 1940, and shortly after married her high school sweetheart, Frederick Bullock. They moved to Portland where Arlene worked various jobs while attending night school. Only a year and a half after their marriage, Frederick passed unexpectedly. At the age of 27, Arlene moved to Connecticut where she married Irving Rose. She was employed as an Accounts Payable Clerk at Bullock Co. in Bridgeport, retiring in the 1980’s. After the death of her second husband, Arlene moved back to Scarborough, then returned to Calais. She enjoyed watching television, reading and spending time with her canine companions. In addition to her parents, Arlene was predeceased by her husband; her step-daughter Carol O’Neil; nephew William McGregor; sister Clytie Bishop; and brother Guy Carter. Surviving are her four nieces, Mary Bowden of Portland, Joyce Bowden of Portland, Donna Scott and her husband Harvard of St. Stephen, N.B., and Deanna Skidgell of Madison; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Homes, Calais & Eastport.
