CALAIS – Arnold “Arnie” Lee Nagel, 58, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 30th in Springfield, IL. Arnie was born on May 9, 1953 in Grand Junction, CO to Henry and AnnaBelle (Purcell) Nagel. He graduated from Fruita Monument High School, Fruita, CO, class of 1971 and then from Mesa State College, class of 1973. He worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator before moving to Maine where he began work as an over the road truck driver (freight relocator) with REM Transport of St. Stephen, New Brunswick. Maine is also where he met Marie Hamilton whom he married on August 7, 2010. Arnie was a fun loving man who enjoyed life, and everything it had to offer. He spent countless afternoons showing his fast pitch skills to various baseball teams; he loved bowling, sleeping in his recliner, hand tooling leather and was an avid hunter. Arnie had a passion for traveling; he had visited every state other than Alaska and also traveled to Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean Islands and he had a special place in his heart for Canada, eh? Arnie was a good hearted man who accepted people for who they were, he was beloved by all for his handlebar mustache and will be sadly missed. Arnie was predeceased by his parents. Survivors include his wife Marie; three children, Amy Hamilton and her partner Shane Ogden of Welsford, New Brunswick, Maggie Hamilton and her partner Anthony Cavan of Red Deer, Alberta and Jessica Hamilton and her partner Mike Godin of Grand Bay, New Brunswick; two grandchildren, Casey and Ella Ogden who gave him countless hours of joy and laughter; a sister, Harriett Real and her husband Richard of Eastport; two brothers, Hank Nagel of San Angelo, TX and Brett Wilker of Yoder, WY; two nephews John Real and his family of Denver, CO, and Blaine Wilker of Yoder, WY; three nieces Aimie Venegas and her family of Grand Junction, CO, Kelly Nagel of Durango, CO and Victoria Nagel of San Angelo, TX, in-laws Colin and Georgina Wallace of Welsford, NB and many special friends in Colorado, Wyoming, Minnesota, Maine, and Canada. A memorial service will be held 5:00 p.m. on Friday December 9 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 112 County Rd., Eastport, ME and at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10th at The Church of The Resurrection, 20 Macdonald Ave., Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick, Canada with Archdeacon Vicars Hodge officiating. Donations in Arnies memory may be made to the church. Services are in the care of Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
