Avis Irene Smith

Eastport – Avis Irene Smith, 87, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Oceanview Nursing Home in Lubec. Avis was born in Calais on May 7, 1922, daughter of the late John W. McNelley and Inez Mae Leman. She was the assistant manager with her family’s business, Smith Brothers, which owned and operated service stations. She enjoyed family outings, camping and attending her son’s baseball games. In addition to her parents, Avis was predeceased by her step-father, Lloyd F. Hill; her husband Lawrence “Tiger” Smith; and a son Larry Smith. Surviving are her two sons, Bud Smith and his wife Mary of Tensed, ID, and Terry Smith and his wife Valerie of Anchorage, AK; a brother Lloyd A. Hill and his wife Edie of Phippsburg, ME; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. In keeping with Avis’ wishes, there will be no services. Avis will be laid to rest beside of her loving husband Tiger in the Brewer Cemetery, Robbinston. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
