Obituary for Barbara May Adelman

Lubec - Barbara M. (Greenlaw-Tinker) Adelman, 81, of Lubec and Machiasport, passed away Thursday, April 19th, at her son Wayne and his wife Susan’s home in Machiasport. . Barbara was born Feb. 22, 1931 in Lubec to Clyde L. Greenlaw and Florice (Wilma) Denbow. She was a strong willed, independent, dignified, kind, Christian woman with a deep passion for life and her lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Barbara always placed the needs of her family before her own needs. Barbara had graduated from Lubec High School and married Melbourne (Kenneth) Tinker in 1949. They soon started a family with their first child’s birth; Lesley (Jeanne) Tinker, three years later a son, Wayne would be born into the Tinker family whom resided in Lubec as well. They would move a few years later to Allston, MA and would add three more children to their family; Timothy, Kendra and Joseph. They would finally settle down in Arlington, MA and raise their five children. While living in Massachusetts Barbara worked as a; ward clerk in Children’s Hospital, cashier for a hardware store, bank teller, and then completing her working years as a librarian aide. Barbara had also attended the “Connecticut School of Broadcasting” and graduated on October 24, 1987. Barbara enjoyed attending Meals in Lubec, attending church, as well as going out for coffee with her friends. Surviving are her daughter Lesley Jeanne Tinker of Melrose, MA, Wayne and his wife Susan of Machiasport, ME, Timothy and his wife Bonnie Jean of Billerica, MA, Kendra Stande of New Bedford, MA and Joseph of Winthrop, MA; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents; Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Melbourne (Kenneth); granddaughter Jennifer Nickerson; second husband Samuel L. Adelman of six years; and a special friend Bernard (BP) Newman. There will be a graveside service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington, MA for family and friends, at a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers Barbara had asked that donations be made for gas cards to help those with cancer from Washington County, Maine to the: Beth C. Wright Resource Center, P.O. Box 322, Ellsworth, ME 04605. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
