Calais – Barbara Mae Lang, 91, passed away with family by her side on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Calais Community Hospital. Barbara was born in Pawtucket, R.I. on May 20, 1931, daughter of Lester and Hazel (Blodwell) Niles.
After graduating high school Barbara went to nursing school at Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, R.I. Once she earned her nursing degree she worked in labor and delivery for many years. Barbara then became the Head Nurse for various medical centers throughout the Providence, R.I. area. Following her retirement, Barbara moved to Calais and became active in the community. She was a member of the Calais United Methodist Church where she served on the board. Barbara was Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in R.I., member of the Happy Gang, and enjoyed attending church activities, word search puzzles and reading.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by a granddaughter, Robin Lang. Surviving are her two daughters, Debra Bushey and husband David of Calais, and Diane Lang and companion Bill Griffin of Cumberland, R.I.; a granddaughter, Lisa Mahar and husband Mike of Pembroke; two great-grandchildren, David Mahar and fiancé Nikki of San Diego, CA, and Keanna Smith and husband Jeff of Houlton; and a great-great grandson, Grayson Smith.
Burial will take place in the Mashassuck Cemetery in Central Falls, R.I. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
