Baileyville – Barbara Ann McAlpine, 75, died Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Atlantic Rehab & Nursing Center. Barbara was born in St. Stephen, N.B., on January 25, 1933, daughter of George and Cora (Greer) Clarke. After graduating from business school, she moved to Toronto, where she was employed for 10 years as an office manager for a doctor’s office that treated autistic children. Barbara then relocated back to St. Stephen and began working for St. Croix Paper Co. Barbara retired from the paper mill with 30 years of service. She was a member of the People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville, the Quarter Century Club and a former member of the Spednic Club. Barbara was very artistic and enjoyed drawing, knitting, reading, bowling, gardening, cooking, baking and bird watching. Her most memorable times were with her family. Barbara enjoyed boat rides and car rides with her husband, annual trips to Cobscook Bay State Park in Edmunds, and spending time with her grandchildren. Barbara was predeceased by her father, George; and a sister, Shirley Gayton. Surviving are her loving husband of over 32 years, Barry “Bud” McAlpine of Baileyville; her mother, Cora Clarke of St. Stephen, N.B.; four children, Kathy Amber of East Windsor, CT, Robert Amber and his wife Cheryl of Baileyville, David McAlpine and his wife Judy of Baileyville, and Christine Wormell of Augusta; three sisters, Joyce Douglas of St. Stephen, N.B., Ellen Sampson and her husband Jerry of Opelika, AL, and Georgianne Flaherty and her husband Michael of Lebanon, CT; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Nathan, Emily, Jacob, Mylissa, Kristofor, Zachary, and Abby; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Sydney and Liam; and many nieces and nephews.
