Vanceboro – Barbara E. Shaw, 79, died Sunday, January 06, 2008 at a Calais nursing home. Barbara was born in Princeton, July 20, 1928, daughter of the late Stephen and Iris (Pratt) Shaw. She graduated from Waltham High School, Class of 1947. Barbara was employed as a secretary for over 30 years with Waltham Grinding Wheels Co. in Waltham, MA. She was a National Weather Service Spotter for 12 years and a member of the Vanceboro Historical Society. Barbara enjoyed bingo and doing crossword puzzles. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Charles Shaw Sr.; and a nephew, Charles Shaw Jr. Surviving are her daughter, Susan Slowe and her husband James of Vanceboro; three sisters, Lillian Monette of Waltham, MA, Ruth Palmer of Tucson, AZ, and Louise Labossiere of Vanceboro; a brother, Stephen Shaw of Waltham, MA; a special niece, Michelle Osborne and her husband Paul and their daughter Sarah of Vanceboro; a special nephew, Joseph Labossiere and his friend Michelle Crosby of Vanceboro; many other nieces and nephews; and her “canine grandson”, Chester. A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 11, at the Vanceboro United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Atlantic Rehab & Nursing Center Activity Fund, 32 Palmer St., Calais, ME 04619.
