Obituary for Barry James Giles Jr.

Calais – Barry James Giles Jr., 37, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Calais Regional Hospital following a lifelong battle with Atrial Fibrillation. Barry was born in Bangor on January 29, 1976, son of Barry Giles Sr. and Bonnie-Jo Nash. He graduated from Woodland High School, Class of 1995, and earned his Associates degree in welding from Eastern Maine Technical College in Bangor. Soon after graduating, Barry enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was attending boot camp at Parris Island when he was diagnosed with a heart condition. Unable to continue his service due to his medical condition, Barry returned home and started to work as a welder, most recently for Woodland Machine Works. He was proud to have been involved with building the first tidal turbine in Eastport. Barry was a member of both the Boiler Makers Union and Iron Workers Union and enjoyed fishing, watching any Boston sports team, and riding his dirt bike and four wheeler. His most cherished memories were the times spent with this daughter Morgan.

Surviving are his precious daughter Morgan Leray Baker Giles of Brewer; his mother Bonnie-Jo Cookson and her husband Ross of Calais; father Barry Giles Sr. and his wife Sheila Hall of Southwest Harbor; two brothers, Brian Giles and his wife Susan of Alexander, and Joshua Robichaud of Rumford; two sisters, Crystal McCaslin and her companion Patrick Cormier of Alexander, and Becky McCaslin of West Enfield; a niece Isabella; nephew Zander; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of Barry’s life will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. After the service, an Irish Wake will be held at the Townhouse Restaurant in Calais.
