Alexander – Bernard Phillip Flood, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Calais Regional Hospital with his loving sister by his side. Bernard was born in Alexander on June 1, 1926, son of the late Raymond and Doris (Woods) Flood. He started working in the woods with his father at a young age. On September 14, 1949, he married the love of his life, Barbara J. Deane. Bernard then began his career with Georgia Pacific, retiring with 25 years of service. After retiring from the mill, he became a Deputy Sheriff for Washington County Sheriff’s Dept. for several years. Bernard loved the Lord and was a member of the Church of The Open Bible in Alexander, which he helped build. Bernard was a member of the Quarter Century Club with Georgia Pacific and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He made many fond memories while hunting with his brother-in-law Hank Dinkins and Bud Wittig, as well as fishing with Hank, Bud, his nephew and niece Richard and Mary Flood, and his great-niece Amanda Danico. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Barbara in 2007; two sons, Alan and Brian Flood; two brothers, Paul and Russell Flood; a brother-in-law Hank Dinkins; and a nephew Russell Flood. Surviving are his sister Maxine Dinkins of Carmel; sister-in-law Madeline Perkins and her husband Leo of Baileyville; a brother-in-law Everett Deane and his wife Beverly of Baileyville; a special nephew Richard Flood and his wife Mary of Alexander; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be held 12 – 1 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the Church of The Open Bible, Route 9, in Alexander, where a celebration of Bernard’s life will begin following the visitation at 1 p.m. with Pastor Chip Howell and Terry Dinkins officiating. Burial will follow in Alexander Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bud Wittig, Terry Dinkins, Garry Dinkins, Ronald Dinkins, Robert Flood and Richard Flood.
