Perry – Bernard Raymond Pottle, 75, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Bernie was born in Eastport on May 11, 1947, son of the late Leonard and Roberta (Cleland) Pottle.
Bernie attended school in Calais and on July 29, 1966, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Concord (AFS-5). Following his service, he returned home to Perry and on August 19, 1978 he married Donna Moores. Bernie worked hard to support his family, working various seasonal jobs such as raking blueberries, making wreaths, tipping, clamming and building log homes. In the early 2000’s, he married Joanne Campbell Hatton. Bernie was a proud member of Sherman Bros. Post #3 American Legion in Calais, as well as the American Legion Post in Poland, ME. He enjoyed playing poker, gardening, picking guitar and watching old westerns.
In addition to his parents, Bernie was predeceased by his first wife Donna Pottle. Surviving are his three children, Eleta Barnard and husband Daniel of Calais, Ira Duren of Calais, and Helene Chambers and husband Tony of Calais; six grandchildren, Emily Cyr of Kittery, Willam and Trinity White, both of Calais, Morgan Day and husband Vinny of Charlotte, and Cassidy and Lena Chambers, both of Calais; many great-grandchildren; a sister Brenda Bishop and husband Dwight of Perry; brothers Brian Pottle of Robbinston, and Blaine Pottle and wife Joni of Newport News, VA; several nieces and nephews; his former wife and dear friend Joanne Pottle of Bangor; and a special friend and significant other Patricia Degen of Poland.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the Brewer Cemetery, Brewer Road in Robbinston. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
