Obituary for Betty Jane Ferguson

Eastport – Betty Jane Ferguson, 66, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 31, 2014 at a Bangor hospital surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Calais on May 29, 1948, daughter of the late Elliot and Annie (McCraken) Thompson. After graduating from Shead High School, Class of 1966, she moved to Washington D.C. where she worked for several years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Betty eventually moved back to Eastport where she worked for Grossman’s Lumber until taking of the family business, owning and operating the Waco Diner. After she sold the business, Betty worked doing book working for area businesses, most recently the Quoddy Tides. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Eastport, Eastport Garden Club, and Eastport Chamber of Commerce. Betty loved being active in her church and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and scrapbooking.

Surviving are her husband Hollis Ferguson of Eastport; a son Gerald Barnes and wife Dolly of Princeton; four step-children, William Ferguson and wife Cindy of Palmer, AK, Mark Ferguson and wife Kathy of Arlington, VA, Pamela Ferguson of Arlington, VA, and Laurie Tupper and husband Brian of Saco; two grandchildren, Jada and Logan Barnes; 13 step-grandchildren, William Jr., Justin, Andrew, Amanda, Tabitha, Caylee, Wesley, Reagan, Torin, Jennifer, Alannah, Brittany, and Moses; her sister Patsy Magoon and husband Richard of Embden; her twin brother Barry Thompson and wife Roberta of Eastport; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 at Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, at Christ Episcopal Church, Key St., Eastport. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
