Obituary for Betty Lorraine Fountain (Cameron)

Baileyville – Betty Lorraine Fountain, 86, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 with family by her side. Betty was born in St. Stephen, NB, on December 14, 1928, daughter of the late Clayton and Susan (Appleby) Cameron. After graduating high school she worked at the cotton mill in Milltown, NB, as well as the gas company in St. Stephen. Betty moved to Madison to live with her sister Fran and work at a local gas company. On August 8, 1959, she married Arnold “Diz” Fountain in Milltown, NB, and together they moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana where they lived for 46 years. While in Indiana, Betty enjoyed traveling home twice a year to be with her family and was a member of a bowling club called Arnie’s Angels. After returning to Maine, Betty was a member of People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville where she was active with United Methodist Women, the church choir, and enjoyed attending bible study. She also was a member of Order of the Eastern Star in St. Stephen. Betty enjoyed golfing, bowling, knitting, gardening, bird watching, traveling with her husband Diz, watching old movies and westerns, especially Cheyenne, and walking with her friends Eleanor and Melva.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Diz on December 16, 2006; two sisters, Frances McLeod and her husband Malcolm, and Virginia Armstrong and her husband Jack; a brother Jack Cameron; nephew Donald McLeod; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Delora Fountain; brother-in-law Steadman Fountain and wife Helen; and sister-in-law Eva Taylor. Surviving are her sister-in-law Sara Cameron of Calais; Godchild and great-niece, Heather Sprague of Brewer; special nieces and nephews, Debra and Fred Sprague of Baileyville, Pam and Kurt Tucker of St. Stephen, NB, and Robert Armstrong and wife Karney of Stanley, NB; special great-nieces and great-nephews, Kelley Sprague of Milford, Megan Sprague of Ellsworth, Jeremy Nixon of Fredericton, NB, Jack Armstrong of Fredericton, NB, Jason Armstrong of Stanley, NB, and Nicole Armstrong of Stanley, NB; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visiting hours will be held 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 7, 2015 at People’s United Methodist Church, Third Ave. and Summit St., Baileyville, where a celebration of Betty’s life will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Pastors Randall Chretien and Keith Moody officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport. Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to People’s United Methodist Church, 86 Summit St., Baileyville, ME 04694.
