Baileyville – Betty K. (Maher) Tammaro, 85, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at her cottage on Pleasant Lake in Alexander. Betty was born in St. Stephen, NB on April 9, 1927, daughter of the late John and Bessie (Coffey) Maher. After graduating from Milltown High School in 1946, she attended St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in St. John, NB, graduating Class of 1952. On September 8, 1956, she married her love, Vincent Tammaro in Milltown, NB. Betty worked as a registered nurse for Charlotte County Hospital in St. Stephen until retiring to raise her children. Along with her husband Vincent, they started V.L. Tammaro Oil Co. She was a Communicant of St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville and was a member of St. James Parish Council, the Ladies Sodality, and the Garden Club. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending summers at their cottage on Pleasant Lake. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Lois Maher. Surviving are her loving husband of 55 years, Vincent Tammaro; three children, John Tammaro and his wife Louise of Falmouth, Michael Tammaro and his fiancé Pauline Beach of Baileyville, and Judith Tammaro of Portland; a granddaughter, Megan Tammaro of Falmouth; sister-in-law Julia Pricone of CT; many nieces and nephews; her loving and devoted caregivers, Freda McIver, Nicole Merritt, and Maxine Cropley; and her “extended family” at V.L. Tammaro Oil Co. Visiting hours were held on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Frank Morin Celebrant on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville. Burial followed in Woodland Cemetery.
