Baileyville, ME & Greenville, SC – Rev. Bobby Leroy Smith Sr., 82, went to be with his Lord & Saviour on Friday, February 13, 2015. Bobby was born in Greenville, SC on December 10, 1932, son of the late George and Nettie (Hudson) Smith. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving for over 9 years and obtaining the rank of Sergeant, until returning home to become an Ordained Minister. Bobby was an Ordained Minister for Church of God for 54 years. He pastored several churches in seven different states but most recently was the pastor at Latta Church of God in Latta, SC, retiring in June, 2010 after pastoring there for 24 years. In June, 2014, Bobby and his wife Margaret moved to Maine to live with their daughter Tonya. He was a member of Washington Avenue Church of God in Greenville, SC, served on the Chaplain Committee at Saint Eugene Medical Center in Dillon, SC, and attended Church of the Living Stone in Baileyville, ME.
In addition to his parents Bobby was predeceased by a son Timothy Smith. Surviving are his loving wife of over 62 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Cummings) Smith; his daughters, Wanda Burlingame and husband Wayne of Layton, UT, and Tonya Scott and husband Durward (USAF Ret.) of Baileyville, ME; sons, S/MSgt Bobby Smith Jr. (USAF Ret.) of Oklahoma City, OK, SSgt George Smith (USMC Ret.) and wife Miharu of Pensacola, FL; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister, Naomi Griffin of Ocala, FL.
A graveside service at Greenville Memorial Gardens in Greenville, SC will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
