Obituary for Bonita Lynn Devine

NEWPORT & PERRY – Bonita L. Devine, 41, died unexpectedly September 10, 2012 at EMMC in Bangor due to complications of rapid onset Leukemia, with loving family and friends by her side. She was born in Calais on May 4, 1971, the daughter of Roseleta Gallagher Smith and Ernest Smith Sr. She attended grammar school in Perry, and graduated from Shead High School as salutatorian, class of 1989. In 1992 she received her chemical engineering degree from the University of Maine at Orono. Bonnie worked in various mills throughout Maine and ran her own home day care between jobs. She enjoyed her current position with GAC Chemical of Searsport immensely. She loved to play golf, watch sports and most of all she loved spending as much time as possible with her son, Tyler and her soul mate, Pat. She is survived by her mother of Robbinston and her father of Lubec; the pride and joy of her life, her son Tyler Devine of Newport; a brother, Travis Smith of Texas and his daughter Veronica Bragdon and family of Cherryfield; a half brother, Ernest Smith Jr. and his wife Sharon and their children; maternal grandmother, Rose Gallagher of Moncton, NB; paternal grandmother, Annie Smith of Calais; an uncle, Doug Brackett of Calais; many cousins and numerous extended family members and her special friend since childhood, Phyllis Kennard. She will also be deeply missed by the love of her life, Patrick Loreng of Harrison. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather Barney Gallagher; paternal grandfather Roy Smith; half brother, William Smith; a special cousin Wade Gallagher along with aunts and uncles. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14th at Mays Funeral Home, Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Perry and all are invited to join the family at Roseleta’s home in Robbinston following the committal service for a time of sharing. Donations in Bonnie’s memory may be made to benefit Bonnie’s son, Tyler, care of Machias Savings Bank, 210 North St., Calais, ME 04619.
