Obituary for Brenda Leigh Gross

Lubec - Brenda Leigh Gross (Lyons), age 53, passed away on December 24, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family after a 7 year battle with ovarian cancer.
Brenda was born on March 2, 1959 the daughter of the late Maxwell and Bertha Lyons (Moores) and was raised in Lubec. After graduating high school Brenda married her husband of 12 years Wilfred (Willie) Walter Gross Sr.
Brenda was a hard working, single mother of 4 children who often did without so that her children could have whatever they needed. She worked all the seasonal jobs that the people of Washington county are so familiar with, was very quick to laugh even though most of the time it was because of something silly she herself had done, and was never afraid to let anyone know what was on her mind. She loved having her family at home and was known for her cookouts in the summer months and big turkey feasts on the holidays. She especially loved to spoil all of her grandchildren even though she didn't see it that way.
Brenda was a very proud women and 4 of her proudest moments were when her Daughter Lea gave birth to her only granddaughter, when her Daughter Bobbie graduated college being the only member to do so, when her 1st born son Billy and wife gave birth to their 1st born son, and when her baby Tim moved to South Portland to attend college.
In addition to her parents and husband, Brenda was pre-deceased by two brothers, Edward and Myron Denbow, one sister Gloria Duffy, and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by 2 daughters Bobbie Jo Barker and husband David of Wilsons Beach, New Brunswick, and Lea Ellen Farrar and husband Jamie of Calais; 2 sons, Wilfred (Billy) Walter Gross Jr. and wife Samantha of Whitneyville and Timothy Allyson Gross of South Portland; five sisters, Kathy Murray, Bonnie Lyons, Judy Lyons, Janet Blake, and Betty Wentworth, 5 Grandchildren: Gary, Alyssa, Jaxon, Mason, and Kolin, several Nephews, and her special companion who was there with her right until the end Peter Haycock. She will also be missed by her 2 loving pets Felix and Bailey.
At Brenda's request, relatives and friends are invited to gather at her residence to celebrate her life on Saturday December 29, 2012 at 1pm. A grave side service will be planned in the spring. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
