Brian H. Dowling

Brian H. Dowling, 70, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at his home in East Machias. Brian was born in Whitneyville on September 27, 1953, son of Herbert and Pamela (Berry) Dowling.

Brian was a dedicated craftsman and beloved family man. He took immense pride in his work as carpenter leaving behind not just structures, but warm, beautiful homes that stand as a testament to his skill and dedication, many of them in Bar Harbor, Maine.

Yet, Brian’s true legacy lies not merely in his professional accomplishments, but in the profound love he held for his son, Dylan. In his eyes, Dylan represented the pinnacle of his achievements, and Brian devoted himself wholeheartedly to being the best father he could be. He reveled in the simple joys of life, embracing moments spent fishing and finding solace amidst the trees while cutting wood.

Brian was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Pam and Herb Dowling of Whitneyville, Maine, as well as his loving wife, Bonnie. Throughout her battle with cancer, Brian exemplified unwavering devotion, caring for Bonnie with a tenderness that spoke volumes about their bond.

Brian was survived by his son Dylan Dowling; stepdaughter and her partner, Patricia Merritt and Kevin Makepeace; three grandchildren, Carter and Noah Makepeace and Payton Moulton; his brother Mark Dowling; nieces Kelly Dowling and great niece Alexis Verburgt of Whitneyville ; niece, Beth Dowling Dorr husband Dan Dorr, and son Kyle, of Harrington; nephew Eric Dowling of Machias, wife Angela Dowling and kids Lucas and Amelia.
