Princeton - It is with great love and much sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce Stanley Cochran, Jr., age 51, on April 16, 2010 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Bruce was in the company of cherished friends and family at the moment of death. Bruce was born September 16, 1958 to Bruce S. Cochran, Sr. and Gloria J. “Joey” (Shouse) Cochran in Killeen, Texas. Bruce, who was known as “Stan” to his family, attended schools in New Mexico and Texas before moving to Princeton, ME with his family. Bruce graduated from Woodland High School in 1976. Immediately after his graduation, Bruce enlisted in the US Navy and served a four year stint as a machinist’s mate. Upon release from the service with an Honorable Discharge, Bruce worked in various fields and professions, from Perk & Elmer in Enfield CT to Overhead Door in both CT and Portland, ME. Ultimately, the call of home was too strong and Bruce returned to Princeton in the 1990’s and built his dream home in South Princeton. Bruce found great pleasure in the company of his friends. The Goose Ranch in Dyer Township (Tomah), ME was a destination spot for many years to be with friends and family through the various seasons. Ice fishing was a beloved pastime and led to the creation of the world’s most visited Ice Shack, most recently located on Pocomoonshine Lake in South Princeton. Bruce leaves behind an extended family and a great many friends, too numerous to mention.
Bruce is survived by his other half, Leta M. Gillis and their blended family of two children and two grandchildren. Among his family, he is survived by his parents and two younger siblings, sister Renee Hamilton and husband Bill of Princeton, ME and brother Jeffrey Cochran and wife Nancy of Hollis Center, Me. The other sibling, Floyd J. Brown, Jr., was not a brother by birth but a brother of the heart for many years. Floyd and his wife Julie and children Jeremy and Jessica reside in Gorham, ME.
Bruce has two nieces, Toni Hamilton of Princeton, ME and Bethany Borden, husband Thomas & children of Baileyville, ME. Bruce’s nephew, Allen Cochran lives in Hollis Center with his family. The Cochran family survivors include: Uncle Jerry Cochran, Aunt Elaine Perkins, Aunt Audrey Bailey, Aunt Janet Powers, Aunt Azelia Kake and many cousins. The Shouse family survivors include: Grandma Genevieve Shouse, Aunt DeeAnn Schlesser, three cousins and their extended families.
