Carl Arthur Leighton

Princeton – Carl Arthur “Bud” Leighton, 81, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Calais Regional Hospital. Bud was born in Danforth on October 11, 1931, son of the late Arthur and Eva (Jamieson) Leighton. After graduating from St. Croix High School in Baileyville, Class of 1949, he enlisted in the US Air Force. Bud proudly served his country during the Korean War as an aircraft and engine mechanic with the 305th Field Maintenance Squadron. Following his military service, he returned to Maine and started his career with St. Croix Paper Co., retiring in 1994 from Georgia Pacific with over 40 years of service. Bud was a member of People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville, the Spednic Club, William T. Wren Post #23 American Legion, and the Quarter Century Club with Georgia Pacific. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, going for car rides and spending time at his camp on Big Lake, Camp David. Bud was an avid Red Sox and Giants Fan. Above all, his most cherished moments were those spent with his loving family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents Bud was predeceased by his first wife Joyce (Fleming) Leighton; a son David Leighton; a brother Robert Leighton; and a sister Arlene Leighton. Surviving are his wife Greta (Scott) Leighton of Princeton; two children, Kimberly Roussel and husband Simon, and Peter Leighton and his wife Darlene, all of Princeton; three step-children, Brian Boomer and his wife Janell of Baileyville, Brent Boomer and his wife Beth of Baileyville, and Lisa Jacobs and her husband Paul of Indiana; one sister, Annie McCall of Princeton; a brother Rodney Leighton of Princeton; four grandchildren, Matthew, Benjamin and his wife Monica, Lisa and her companion Tyson, and Katie; nine step-grandchildren, Scott, Katherine, Michelle, Christine, Kylie, Ashley, Hailey, Justin and Senica; two great-grandchildren, Angel and Addisyn; special sisters-in-law Charlene Perkins and Lois Stimson; brother-in-law Ernest “Bungie” Scott and his wife Vivian; special niece Connie Perkins; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Bud’s life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2012 at People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military honors.
