Obituary for Carleton Joseph Lewey

Pleasant Point – On May 25, 2016, Carleton Joseph Lewey “Papa Coon”, 68, went home to be with the Lord. Carleton was born November 8, 1947 in Eastport, the son of Sabattus Sr. and Irene Lewey.

Coon was a diehard Red Sox fan; he loved baseball, softball and umpired games most of his life. Fishing was his most precious moment. He enjoyed playing pool with his buddies and was also known as the “pool shark”. Coon loved playing cards at the Pleasant Point Elderly Mealsite and especially enjoyed playing poker with family and friends.

Carleton attended Shead High School. He worked in janitorial services, maintenance worker and as a Sipayik EMS ambulance driver and was an avid volunteer at the Mealsite.

Carleton is survived by his sisters, Janet, Gloria and her husband Frank, Catha, Sandra and Evelyn; brothers, Sabattus Jr. and his wife Betty, Dennis and his companion Sally, George and wife Alberta, Thomas, Michael Sr. and his wife Shonna, Jimmy, Walter, Paul and many special nieces and nephews.

He will be sadly missed by Jennifer whom he adored as his own daughter and her children, Jaylah, Davin, Jessah and Daija. He will be remembered by his special friends, Amza Page, Lisa Altvater-Bassett, Valerie Altvater, Laura Jurewicz and his Godchild Savanna Francis.

In addition to his parents, Coon was predeceased by one sister, Gladys; two brothers, Robert and Richard “Moe” Lewey; aunts Edna, Marylou, Angela and Mary Lola, with whom he cherished every moment.

Visitation will begin at noon, Saturday, May 28th at the home of Mike and Shonna, 43 Warrior Rd., Pleasant Point until 9:30 a.m., Monday. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 30, 2016 at Beatrice Rafferty School, Pleasant Point with father Kevin Martin officiating. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
