Calais & Baring Plantation – Carlton L. Bohanon, 83, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Alexander on March 19, 1935, the son of the late Leila Bohanon.
He attended school in Alexander and later enlisted in the United State Air Force serving during the Korean War. On August 22, 1956 Carlton married the love of his life, Eva Davis with whom he raised three daughters. He and his wife returned to make Milltown their forever home. Carlton worked for Northeast Lumber in Calais until the factory closed. He then began work in 1967 at Georgia Pacific Company in Baileyville where he started out in the wood room, and then the grinder room before starting his career as an oiler in 1974, a position he held until his retirement in 1997.
Carlton enjoyed hunting, fishing four wheeling, snowmobiling, spending time at his daughter’s camp on Nash’s Lake, birdwatching, which was a love of both his and his late wife’s, spending time with friends and most importantly his family. He was an adventurous and courageous man with a great sense of humor. He always put a smile on your face. Carlton will be remembered for his kind heart. Whenever someone needed him, he was always there. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his mother, Leila Bohanon, Carlton was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Eva Bohanon; two grandson’s Corey Wentworth and Stacy Furlong.
Surviving are three daughters, Evelyn Belanger and her husband, Russell of Buxton, Brenda Spear and her companion, Rodney Leighton of Baring Plantation, and Pam Mitchell of Bangor; six grandchildren, Darrin Furlong and his wife Jodi of Shapleigh, Jeff Furlong of Richmond, Jeremy Furlong of Waterboro, John Fitzsimmons and his wife Tasheena of Calais, Nathan Spear of Baring Plantation and Nick Mitchell of Corinth and eleven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service in Carlton’s memory will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Committal will follow at Calais Cemetery.
