Eastport – Charlene Sandra (Robinson) Townsend, 76, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Calais Regional Hospital. Charlene was born and raised in Eastport on May 27, 1938, daughter of the late Harold W. and Helen (Morrison) Robinson. She graduated from Shead Memorial High School and worked in the local fish factories until she married George Townsend. Together, they owned and operated George’s Restaurant in Eastport for many years. She then worked in the woolen mill for Guilford Industries. Charlene was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and a member of Fred Mitchell Unit #11 American Legion Auxiliary, and Ralph A. Ray #558 V.F.W. Auxiliary, all in Eastport, and enjoyed attending her class reunions.
In addition to her parents, Charlene was predeceased by her husband George; two sisters, Madonna Follis and Beverly Moholland; two brothers, Charles and Royce Robinson; and two nephews, Keith Follis and Ricky Moholland. Surviving are two sisters, Inez Segien and Vonalyn Harris, both of Eastport; step-daughter Jeannie Cushing of Westbrook; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly and will be missed by.
A graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Eastport in late spring. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
