Calais – Charlie “Bill” Lowell Jr., 87, passed away peacefully at this home with his daughters by his side on Friday, June 07, 2013.
Charlie was born in Old Town on March 9, 1926, son of the late Charles and Florence (Foss) Lowell. He graduated from Old Town High School and entered the U.S. Air Force to serve during WWII. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he went to work for New England Telephone Company in Calais where he met and married Joyce Tracy on March 19, 1950. Charlie spent his entire 37 year career with New England Telephone Co. where he was a member of the Pioneer’s Volunteer Network. He also was a member of St. Croix Lodge #46 A.F. & A.M., and the St. Croix Country Club where he spent many mornings with the “seniors”.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Joyce in November, 1998. Charlie is survived by his two daughters, Catherine McKeown and her husband Bob of Warren, and Cindy O’Brien and her husband Ron of Calais; four grandchildren, Ryan and Sean McKeown of Portland, Danielle O’Brien Flanagan and her husband Tom of Clinton, and Matthew O’Brien and his fiancé Kelli Cross of Bath; a sister, Norma Bishop of Hampden; a brother Neal Lowell of Sacramento, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to St. Croix Country Club Junior Golf Program, PO Box 294, Calais, ME 04619. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
