Calais – Charlotte “Erdine” Townsend Claridge, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Calais Regional Hospital. She was born in Calais on October 25, 1921, the daughter of Albert Townsend and Elizabeth Townsend Griffin, and step-father Leo Griffin. Erdine graduated from Calais Academy in 1939 and married Willard B. Claridge on September 25th of that same year. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, caring grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. Her most enjoyable times were spent with family, friends and neighbors, especially with those in “The Union”. Her hobbies included cooking, knitting, crafts, writing poetry, and listening to music. She loved her God, family and her country. Erdine will be sadly missed, but her memories will live on forever. Erdine was predeceased by her husband of 64 years in 2003, her parents, step-father, and a brother, Verne Townsend. She is survived by her son, Wayne Claridge and his wife Sue of Calais; a daughter, Gayle Lindsay and her husband Joseph of St. Stephen, N.B.; a brother, Eugene and his wife Patricia of Calais; a sister, Lois Griffin Hardy of Enfield, CT; 8 grandchildren, Catherine (David) Stone, Crista (Scott) Lukoski, Craig (Antonieta) Claridge-Fenderson; Cherilyn (Dean) Palmer, Troy Claridge, Joell Lindsay, William “Billy” Lindsay, and Jon (Tabitha) Lindsay; 9 great-grandchildren, Tessa Claridge, Dominique & Dustin Fenderson, Hannah & Jackson Stone, Grant & Paige Palmer, and Gavin & Travis Lindsay; and several nieces, nephews and close friends. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
