Obituary for Chelsea Marie Barnes

Pleasant Point – Chelsea Marie Barnes, 24, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at her parent’s home surrounded by her family and friends following a courageous battle with cancer. Chelsea was born in Machias on May 4, 1991, daughter of Joseph Barnes Sr. and Dorothy (Newell) Barnes. After graduating from Shead High School, Class of 2009, she worked at The Friendly Restaurant and the Happy Crab, the Pleasant Point Tribal Office, and most recently with the Youth & Rec Department at Pleasant Point. Chelsea was a Communicant of St. Ann R.C. Church in Pleasant Point, member of Little Eagles Drum Group for over 10 years, and served on the Policy Council at Passamaquoddy Head Start. She enjoyed drumming, fishing, family hunting trips to Jackman, and spending time with her family, especially her daughter, Tanisha Marie, who was her world.

Chelsea was predeceased by her paternal grandfather Maxwell “Chick” Barnes; an uncle Jimmy Barnes; and her great-grandparents. Surviving are her daughter whom she loved to the moon and back, Tanisha Marie Bulmer; her parents Joseph Sr. and Dorothy Barnes of Indian Township; two sisters, Cassandra Barnes and Destinee Barnes and her companion Ben Toney of Pleasant Point; her brother Joseph Barnes Jr. of Indian Township; paternal grandmother Mary Lou Barnes of Pleasant Point; maternal grandparents Wayne and Sandra Newell of Indian Township; a niece Brielle; nephew Andrew; several aunts and uncles; and numerous friends.

Visiting hours will begin 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015 at her grandmother’s home, Mary Lou Barnes, 9 Moosewalk Lane, Pleasant Point, until 10 a.m. Monday, June 15. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Rob Lupo 11 a.m. Monday at St. Ann R.C. Church, Pleasant Point. Burial will follow in Restlawn Cemetery, Perry. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a trust account for her daughter Tanisha, Sunrise Account, at any of The First’s locations, or to Sarah’s House, 346 Main Rd., Holden, ME 04429.
