Obituary for Claire Lucille Scribner

CALAIS & FORT MYERS, FL – C. Lucille Scribner, 98, passed away on September 26, 2011, her 98th birthday in Fort Myers, FL with her family at her side. Lucille was born September 26, 1913 to George and Claire (Corbett) Woods in Calais. She grew up in Calais and attended Calais Academy where she was a member of the state champion basketball team in 1932, the same year of her graduation. Lucille married Merton L. Scribner on October 12, 1932 in Calais where she worked for over 25 years at WT Grant Company. She loved to travel and enjoyed Sunday dinners with her family. Lucille moved to Florida later in life where she could often be seen riding her bike or tending to her orange trees. She was a member of Calais Orion Chapter #45 Order of the Eastern Star, the Rebecca’s Lodge and the Calais Pythian Sisters. In addition to her parents, Lucille was predeceased by her husband, Merton L. Scribner; a sister, Rena Mazeika; four brothers, Phillip, James, Ronald and Jack Woods and a great grandson, Adam Sherlock. She is survived by two children, Carl S. Scribner and his wife Margo of Fort Myers, FL and Rena Garriott and her husband Jerald of Calais; six grandchildren Kim Sinclair and her husband Carl, Carla Smythe and her husband Gerry, Kelli Scribner and her companion Richard, David Sherlock and his wife Elizabeth, Linda Sherlock and Stephen Sherlock and his wife Terry; three step grandchildren, Kim Sermersheim and her husband John, Jerald Garriott and his wife Monica and Robin Bouchard and her husband John and many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be announced at a later date. Donations in Lucille’s memory may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation of Maine, Ste 203, 87 Elm St., Camden, ME 04843-1959 or a charity of one’s choice.
