Pembroke – Colby Curtis Cook, 89, passed away Friday, December 23, 2016 at Down East Community Hospital in Machias. Colby was born in Robbinston on April 20, 1927, son of the late Edwin and Edith (Bugbee) Cook. After high school Colby enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving over 21 years. During WWII he served as a Gunners Mate on the aircraft carrier USS Randolph (CVS-015). Following his retirement, Colby and his wife Elsie (Mahar) Cook returned to Maine.
In addition to his parents, Colby was predeceased by his beloved wife Elsie; a brother, William Cook; and a sister Marion Bragg. Surviving are his sisters-in-law, Avis Whorley and Jean Mahar; brother-in-law Ralph Mahar and his wife Mary; several cousins; as well as the following nieces and nephews and their families, Linda Augilar, Sharon Bragg, Joyce Tompkins, Eugene Mahar, Brenda Godin, Dennis Mahar, Kenny Frost, Paul Mahar, Pamela Moore, and Ruth Chaffey.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10th at Clarkside Cemetery in Pembroke with Pastor Ernest James officiating. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
