Obituary for Daniel Herbert Earley

Eastport – Daniel Herbert Earley, 87, was surrounded by his family when he passed away on January 27, 2017 at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. Daniel was born September 20, 1929 in Haledon, NJ to Edwin and Emma (Shauger) Earley.

At the age of two his family moved to Woodbridge, New Jersey where he spent his childhood and graduated high school. He served his country in The United States Air Force and then, later in life, enlisted with the United States Coast Guard. As a young man, fresh out of the military and working with the Carpenter’s Union, he attended a prom where he met Helen Chapman, the woman he would later marry on April 21, 1951 and spend the rest of his life with. Together they raised six children.

Dan worked hard to support his family, he reached for higher education by attending evening classes while working during the day for many years. He was a skilled carpenter but also loved working with electronics, which led to his employment with IT&T, Motorola, Time Warner and the Consumer’s Union. After earning his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at The New Jersey Institute of Technology Dan went on to develop a career with the New York Power Authority.

Dan was not only a hard worker, he also had many interests and hobbies, he loved using his ham radio, had a passion for sailing and woodworking and was a dedicated family man. In 1986 Dan and Helen bought a house in Eastport where they would spend summers with their family before he retired in 1995 and made Eastport their home.

In addition to his parents, Daniel was predeceased by his daughter, Rosanna Goad; granddaughter, Emily Greco; sister, Dorothy Lorch; brother Edwin Earley and three step-grandchildren.

He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Helen Earley; five children, John Earley of Eastport, Dorothy Greco and her husband Matthew of Alpha, NJ, Barbara Williams of Chapel Hill, NC, Jo Ann Buskirk and her husband Rod of Eastport and Edwin Earley and his wife Darby of MO; eleven grandchildren; twelve step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; his older sister Emma Aaro of NJ; niece and nephew, Amy Aaro of NJ and Christian Aaro of NC and many friends, including special friend, Father Thomas Heinz of PA.
