Big Lake Twp – Darren B. Laney Sr., 62, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 10, 2022. Darren was born on March 3, 1960 to Carene Haney and Donald Laney of Princeton.
Darren left at an early age to join the U.S. Army. After returning from the military, he met the love of his life, Lisa Corbett. Together they had two sons, Darren Jr. and Dustin Laney. Darren’s proudest moments were watching his kids enjoy life by playing sports, hunting, fishing and achieving their goals.
When Darren’s grandchildren came along, he was also a very proud man. He enjoyed the weekends when grandkids would stay over and enjoy doing special things with them. Darren enjoyed his four-wheeler rides on the weekends on the back roads. He also just enjoyed sitting and watching nature and wildlife from the windows of his home, which he was so proud to have built himself. He also loved to take in the sunsets and sunrises. Darren took pride in taking great care of his “second mom”, Evelyn Corbett, always being at her beck and call for anything she needed.
In addition to his parents, Darren was predeceased by his stepfather, Harold Harvey; sister Viki Laney; grandfather Allie Laney; and his three fur-babies, Sampson Sr., Scrappy and Snowball. Surviving are the love of his life for 37 years, Lisa Corbett; his two sons, Darren Jr. and Dustin Laney and wife Kristina of Baileyville; daughter Tabitha Ripley; two grandchildren, Asher Bishop and Alex “Allie” Laney; his brother Donald Laney; three sisters, Paulette, Yvette and Rene; his beloved K-9 Sampson; and numerous special lifelong friends.
A Celebration of Darren’s Life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Sunrise Christian Church, Big Lake Rd, Big Lake Twp. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
