Sipayik – David Joseph Nicholas, 57, was surrounded by his family when he passed away on June 4, 2018 in Calais. David was born on October 28, 1960 to John and Eva (Nicholas) Zanes in Hartford, CT but grew up Atlantic City, NJ until his freshman year of high school when his family returned to Maine. David lived in Indian Township briefly before making Pleasant Point his home.
Over the years David did many jobs, he was a logger and worked seasonally fishing, tipping and clamming but he also gave his time to those in need. He was conscious of the people around him, he recognized when he could help, and he acted on it. In recent years David volunteered at the Elderly Meal Site where he bonded with many special individuals. He was easy going and kind, David loved to laugh and have a good time and will be remembered as genuine and true to his family.
In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his grandmother, Frances C. Nicholas; his sister and brother, Frances L. Nicholas and Darryl Nicholas; Godchild, George Georgantis and his canine companion, Ally.
He leaves behind his children, Dylan C.N. Francis and his wife Kim and Jessica C. Francis and her companion Nate, all of Pleasant Point; the mother of his children, Cyrilla M. Francis of Pleasant Point; sisters, Noreene Townsend of AZ and Alice Nicholas Lay of Pleasant Point; brother, Alphonse Andoscia III of Pleasant Point; many nieces and nephews that David cherished deeply but had a special connection with Lewis Evans, Eva Carter and John Carter who was also his Godson; Goddaughter, Elizabeth Champagne; and special friends, Chewa Newell and Keith Moore.
In keeping with David’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service. In appreciation, donations in David’s memory may be made to Sarah’s House, 346 Main St., Holden, ME 04429. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
