Calais – David Alan Townsend, 57, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. David was born in Calais on September 17, 1957, son of the late Homer and Mavis (Hood) Townsend Sr. He graduated from Woodland High School, Class of 1975, and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following his service, David returned home and attended Beal College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Most recently he was employed as an Ed Tech with Psychotherapy Associates in Calais until he was unable to work due to his illness. David was a former member of the Spednic Club in Baileyville and St. Croix Bowling Club in Calais. He enjoyed watching sports and attending all the high school soccer games.
In addition to his parents David was predeceased by a son David W. Townsend; and a nephew Jesse Blackman. Surviving are his wife Barbara Townsend of Calais; seven children, Matthew Townsend of Calais, Todd Townsend of Perry, Corey Townsend of Perry, John Dana Jr. and wife Heather of Baileyville, Katrina Girardin and husband Roger of Poland, Dynesha Burke of Calais, and Bionca Burke of Calais; six grandchildren, Gavin, Rita, Evan, Gabriella, Gage, and his special angel Brayden; a sister Terry Townsend of Portland; two brothers, Homer Townsend Jr. of Arlington, VA, and Harold Townsend of Princeton; a nephew Dale Townsend; a niece Michelle Townsend; and a special friend Joseph Ohmeis.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Woodland Cemetery in Baileyville. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
