Indian Township – Dean Joseph LaCoote, 47, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Dean was born in Calais on April 27, 1967, son of the late Lawrence and Loretta (Sopiel) LaCoote Sr. He attended school in Calais and had various jobs, but mostly worked as a painter and roofer.
In addition to his parents, Dean was predeceased by two sisters, Geneva and Maria LaCoote. Surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth LaCoote of Indian Island, and Lillian Sockabasin of Indian Township; three brothers, Nakoma Gabriel of Indian Township, Dominic LaCoote of Bangor, and Lawrence LaCoote Jr. of Summersville, WV; four nieces, Nancy LaCoote, and Lacey, Maria, and Eleanor Sockabasin; five nephews, Dustin, Corey, and Dylan LaCoote, Clint Sabattis, and Lance Sockabasin; special aunts Sylvia Sockabasin, Nancy Polches, and Marjorie LaCoote; two uncles, Dyke Sopiel and Billy Sockabasin; and dear friends Chris Polches, Roger and Brenda Ritter, and Pat Sabattis.
Visiting hours will begin 10 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 7A Beech Circle, Indian Township, until 10 a.m. Monday, January 26. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Rob Lupo 11 a.m. Monday at St. Ann R.C. Church, Peter Dana Point. Burial will follow in the Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
