Dennis James Tomah Sr.

Indian Township – Dennis James Tomah Sr., 70, passed away on May 2, 2015 surrounded by his family at Eastern Maine Medical Center after a brief illness. Dennis was born August 18, 1944 in Peter Dana Point, son of Raymond and Blanche Tomah. He worked several jobs throughout his life in Indian Township, including substance abuse counselor, elderly advocate and mostly as a carpenter but his great love in life was his family. Dennis taught his sons to moose hunt and his grandchildren to cook traditional Native American dishes, he enjoyed many days at his camp with his grandchildren and loved just being outside. On May 11, 1964 in Cambridge, MA Dennis married Diana Lilly with whom he started a family and loved for over 50 years. He was a hardworking man who always put his family first. Dennis appreciated his father and brother-in-law’s musical talents; he would listen to them play bluegrass and country music any chance he had. In addition to his parents, Dennis was predeceased by his sister Carolyn Sappier; infant brother Maynard Tomah and niece Monica Sappier. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Diana L. Tomah, three children, Belinda Newell of Indian Township, Dennis J. Tomah Jr. and wife Bette of Baileyville and Jeffrey Tomah and his wife, Dawn of Indian Township; nine grandchildren, Tiffany, Danielle, Kyle and his companion Ashley, Glenn, Jeffrey Tomah II, Haley, Allyssa, Alex and Dennis J. Tomah III; two great grandchildren, Gavyn and Rita; three brothers, Tony Coty and his wife Debrah of San Antonio, TX, Timmy Coty and Lenny Coty, both of CT; special cousins Bernard, Gene and Geraldine; close friends Darren Ripley, Bobby Newell, Clayton Cleaves and Allen Sockabasin; his canine companion, Shelby and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and forever remembered as a wise guy, a flirt and for his huge personality with a smile to match. Visitation will be held at Dennis’s home, 7 Spruce Lane, Indian Township beginning at 5:00 p.m., Monday, May 4th until 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 6th. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 6th at St. Ann’s R.C. Church, Peter Dana Point.
