Baileyville – Dennis Arden Woodruff Sr., 69, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012 at his home in Baileyville. Dennis was born in Calais on October 10, 1942, son of the late Conrad Woodruff and Gertrude Demarch. After graduating from Woodland High School, Class of 1960, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War as an Aviation Mechanic until November 1964. Following his service, Dennis returned home to Baileyville and began working for V.L. Tammaro until 1991. On February 13, 1971, he married Mary Jean Cole in Calais. He then worked for JD Thomas and last with Dead River as an oil burner technician, retiring in 2009. Dennis was a life member of Sherman Bros. Post #3 American Legion and the Boyd-Smith Post #9779 V.F.W. He also was a scout leader for many years. Dennis was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He always enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s school functions. In addition to his parents, Dennis was predeceased by his loving wife of 39 years, Mary Jean Woodruff in 2010; and a brother Forest Woodruff. Surviving are his three children, Dorie Dunton and her husband Smokey of Newburgh, Crystal Monk and her husband Troy of Baileyville, and Dennis A. Woodruff II and his wife Char of Big Lake Twp; 11 grandchildren; and two nephews, Forest and Craig Woodruff. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Dennis’ life will be held 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Baileyville with Military Honors.
