Calais and Madison – Donald Cameron McLeod, 68, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Calais Regional Hospital. Donald was born in Skowhegan on October 2, 1943, son of the late Malcolm and Frances (Cameron) McLeod. He attended school in Madison and worked for Western Auto and Fernald Market in Madison. Donald moved to Fairfield where he worked in the local grocery store for many years. He eventually relocated to Calais where he worked for Johnson’s Hardware. Donald loved genealogy, watching Jeopardy and college football, painting, reading, history, golfing and playing cards and cribbage. He also enjoyed teaching painting classes and reciting poetry and riddles. Donald will be remembered by all who knew him for his sense of humor and caring nature. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by aunts and uncles, Virginia and Jack Armstrong, Jack Cameron, Arnold Fountain, Donald and Marybelle McLeod, John and Ida McLeod and Kenneth and Inez McLeod. Surviving are his sister Janice Withee and her husband Cliff of Madison; three aunts, Sara Cameron of Calais, Betty Fountain of Baileyville and Jean Welock of St. Stephen, NB; many nieces and nephews whom he thought the world of; several cousins, including Pamela Tucker and her husband Kurt of St. Stephen, NB, Robert Armstrong and his wife Karen of Stanley, NB, Debra Sprague and her husband Fred of Baileyville, Karen Olmstead and her husband Don and Jane Garnett and her husband Peter all of St. Stephen; and his feline companion Annie. In keeping with Donald’s wishes, there will be no services. Donations in Donald’s memory may be made to PAWS Brave Hearts, 368 South St., Calais, ME 04619.
