Brewer and Calais – Donna Elaine Eagan, 75, passed away peacefully at a Bangor hospital on November 28, 2014, after battling several prolonged and concurrent illnesses. Donna was born in Calais on August 9, 1939, the first child of Leo and Ruth (Durling) Kneeland. She was raised and grew up in Wesley and attended Lee Academy for a year, but finished out the remainder of her high school years at Calais Memorial High School. It was there that she met her future husband, Sheldon L. “Diddy” Eagan. They were married in 1957 and quickly began growing their family.
Donna was self-employed as a beautician for 15 years, and then later catered professionally. Her final years in Calais were spent managing Kendall’s Jewelry on Main Street. Donna loved sports and was an avid fan of both the Red Sox and the Celtics. She also played golf, enjoyed movies, reading books, and playing cards.
Donna was predeceased by both her parents. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Sheldon “Diddy” Eagan; three sons, Philip L. Eagan and his wife Anne Louise “Husa” of Calais, John Michael Eagan and his partner R. Wauquin Vela of Atlanta, and Donald A. Eagan of Portland; two grandchildren, Tracie Eagan and her companion Matt Leachman, and P.O.3 Tyler Eagan, U.S.N.; one great-grandchild, Reed Leachman; siblings Karen Polley and her husband John, and Leo Kneeland Jr.; sister-in-law Shirley Tracy; special friends Kay Morrison and Greta May Barnes; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Donna’s life will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, in the funeral home. A private burial will take place at Calais Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donna's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
