Donna L. Mitchell

Donna (Cantwell) Mitchell, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Westgate Manor in Bangor. Donna was born to Walton L. and Helen V. Cantwell on January 5, 1939, in Hartford, CT.

 Her schooling for the most part was in West Pembroke, ME, graduating from Pembroke High School, Class of 1956. She worked for a short time in Connecticut until returning to Maine where she met and married “Joey Mitchell”. They raised their five children, William, Karen, Dana, Shelley and Joe. 

 Donna owned and operated a daycare home in Eastport, Donna’s Daycare, for thirty-six years and loved every one of the children.

 In addition to her parents, Donna was predeceased by her husband Joe Mitchell; five siblings, four brothers, Walton, Donald, Allan, and Richard, and a sister Laura June; J.C. Altvater; and three of her best friends, her feline companions for seventeen years, Jack, Nectarine and Fredrick.

 We like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Methodist Homes, Washington Place, and Westgate Manor for their unwavering care and support over the years.

 Donna is survived by her five children and their families, William “Bumper” and wife Kimmie and their children, Eric and Kelli, Karen and husband John and children Darrin and Katy, Dana and wife Rosa and children Jessica and Stephanie, Shelley and companion Walter and children Shania and Dayna, and Joe III and companion Amanda and children Joseph, Laura and Blake; and many great-grandchildren.

 Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2024, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, August 10, at St. Joseph Church, 51 Washington St., Eastport. Burial will be in Bayside Cemetery. Following the burial, a fellowship will be held at John and Karen Constant’s home, 555 South Meadow Road in Perry.
