Calais – Doris Mary Mathewson, 91, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. Doris was born in St. John, New Brunswick on January 21, 1923, daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Simon) Tracey. Throughout most of her life she was employed as a secretary for the U.S. Government.
In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Valdes; her second husband Herbert Mathewson; two brothers, Douglas and Kenneth “Bud” Tracey; a sister Lillian Zed; and two nieces, Karen Zed and Elizabeth Tracey. Surviving are a special niece whom she raised, Patricia Tracey; nieces and nephews, Angela Tracy of Old Orchard Beach, Geraldine Smith of Calais, Peter Zed and wife Martha of Saint John, NB, Monica Walker of Saint John, NB, Ardeth Reardon and husband Clary of Halifax, NS, and Kevin Zed and wife Geneva of Saint John, NB, Michael Tracey, Doris Tracey, Jane Tracey, Paul Tracey, and Anne Marie Tracey, all of the state of Washington; a grandniece, Michelle Spindel; a great-nephew Jacob Spindel; and many other grandnieces, grandnephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, with Father Rob Lupo officiating.
