Obituary for Dorothea Jeanne McKeown

Calais – Dorothea Jeanne “Dottie” McKeown, 86, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Westgate Manor in Bangor. Dottie was born in Alexander on February 8, 1926, daughter of the late Lester and Gladys (Perkins) Craft. She attended local Alexander schools and on May 4, 1946 she married her love, James McKeown. They moved to Calais, where she raised her 6 children. Dottie was a laundry manager for man y years at Stacey’s Motel in Calais, now known as the Calais Motor Inn. She faithfully watched Souls Harbor television program out of Bangor where Pastor Ron Libby often dedicated songs to her. Dottie was a member of Woodland Baptist Church in Baileyville and enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, James McKeown; a son David McKeown; her sister Verna Thistlewood; and a brother Gerald Craft. Surviving are her 5 children, Dianne Graham and her husband David of Bradley, Duane McKeown of Phoenix, AZ, Marvin McKeown and his companion Becky Seigars of Wiscasset, Donna Barry and her husband Fred of Orrington, and Barry McKeown and his wife Larissa of Phoenix, AZ; ten grandchildren, Tania Cody and her companion Jeff Joy, Niesje and Michael McKeown and his companion Jen Johnson, Troy Leavitt and his wife Amy, TJ Leavitt and his wife Heather, Brandy and Toni Kelley-McKeown, and Patrick, Brandon and Karissa McKeown; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor and Will Cody, Cassie and Kiely Leavitt, Ethan and Evan Leavitt, Christian Doyle and Caden McKeown; a daughter-in-law Marie McKeown of Baileyville; special niece Jan Mallory of Baileyville; and her “extended family” at Westgate Manor in Bangor. A private graveside service will be held in Calais Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Dottie’s memory may be made to Souls Harbor Ministries, PO Box 275, Corinth, ME 04427.
