Baileyville – Dorothy L. Hoops, 82, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at a Calais hospital with her son by her side. Dorothy was born in Queens, NY on July 20, 1925, daughter of the late John and Mabel (Williams) Grimes. After graduating from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in Brooklyn, NY, she entered St. Catherine School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1946. Dorothy worked as a Registered Nurse for various hospitals in New York for the next twenty years. In 1966, she became the school nurse for Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School until her retirement in 1992. Dorothy married William Hoops on Sept. 10, 1949. She was a Communicant of St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville, and a former member of the New York Nurses Assoc. Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband, William; a sister, Mary Lussier; a brother, Robert Grimes; and a brother-in-law, Michael Hoops. Surviving are her three sons, Mark Hoops and his wife Lorinda of Hopewell Junction, NY, Dr. Brian Hoops and his wife Julie of Baileyville, and Emmett Hoops and his wife Angela of Saranac Lake, NY; seven grandchildren, Kirstin, Stephen, Sally, Bonnie, Jake, Emily and Margaret; a dear friend, Jacqueline Hoops of Burlington, VT; a sister-in-law, Marie Hoops of NY; three brothers-in-law, Robert Hoops and his wife Anne, John Hoops and his wife Florence, and Richard Lussier, all of NY; and many nieces and nephews. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday by Father Frank Morin at St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville. Burial will take place beside her husband in Long Island National Cemetery, NY, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to St. James the Greater R.C.
