Obituary for Dorothy Viola James

Charlotte – Dorothy Viola James, 76, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2009 at Calais Regional Hospital. Dorothy was born in Bountiful, UT on December 12, 1932, daughter of the late Frederick and Eva (Adair) Boynton. In 1945, they moved to Greene, Maine, finally settling in the Leeds. After marrying her “honey” Calvin L. James in June of 1950, she relocated to Charlotte. Dorothy was employed at Hathaways Shirt Factory, Northeast Industries, and in the kitchen at Barnard’s Nursing Home. She enjoyed living on the farm, gardening, canning tomatoes, knitting mittens, Beano, puzzles, and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband, Calvin L. James; a grandson, Michael Poole; daughter-in-law, Patricia James; an infant brother; and three sisters, Estella, Pearl and Loretta. Surviving are her three daughters, Gloria Murray and her husband Augustus of Dennysville, Bonnie Smith and her husband Paul Smith Sr. of Dennysville, and Karen Clark and her husband Kenneth Clark Sr. of Calais; two sons, Calvin “Skip” James of Charlotte and Raymond “Butch” James and his wife Christel of Calais; a sister, Mary Heverling of Lewiston; fourteen grandchildren, Nicholas Murray of Durant, OK, Paul Smith Jr. and his wife Tanya of Dennysville, Bradley Smith of Dennsyville, Kenneth Clark Jr. and his wife Christy of Brewer, Kari Clark of Bangor, Calvin “Jerry” James and his companion Stacey Spatcher of Alexander, Aaron James of Machias, Lisa James and her companion Mark Waycott of Baileyville, Robert Poole and his companion Charity Williams of Calais, Matthew Poole and his wife Krystal of New Gloucester, Kadie Poole of Calais, and Samantha James, Raymond James and Jennifer James, all of Easton; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her canine companion, Patches.
