Obituary for Douglas Leroy Bailey

Princeton – Douglas Leroy Bailey, 78, passed away June 18, 2009 at his home after a short illness with his wife by his side. Douglas was born in Princeton on December 18, 1930, son of the late George and Shirley (Pelkey) Bailey. He graduated from Princeton High School. Douglas was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force as a Airman Second Class with the Military Police. After his service, he returned home and worked as a Special Warden for several years. Douglas retired from Georgia Pacific with over 30 years of service. His love for the outdoors led him to become a Maine Master Guide. Douglas will be remembered for his skills in hunting, fishing and gardening. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Aubrey; and a brother Edward. Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Audrey (Cochran) Bailey; six children, Susan D. Bailey L.P.N. of East Millinocket, Ronald K. Bailey Sr. and his wife Constance R.N. of Goode, VA, George D. Bailey Sr. of Princeton, Richard D. Bailey and his wife Mary of Princeton, Rita J. Avery L.N.A.III and her husband Will of Campton, NH, and Amy A. Swensen of Princeton; one brother, Elmer Bailey and his wife Linda; seven grandchildren, Ronald Jr., George Jr., Alfred, Tonia, Angela, Sgt. Jeffrey (U.S. Army) and Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Star, Aubrey and Kati; and many other relatives and friends. Douglas will be greatly missed by all. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Homes, Calais & Eastport.
