Baring – Earl Ray Bartlett, 76, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at his home with his loving family by his side. Earl was born in Baring on May 13, 1935, son to the late Earl and Flossie (Bridges) Bartlett. After attending school in Calais, he worked in the woods for many years until becoming employed at Northeastern Lumber Co. On December 22, 1957, he married Jacqueline MacArthur in St. Stephen, N.B. Earl and Jackie moved to Connecticut where he worked at International Silver in Meriden. They returned home to Baring and Earl went back to Northeastern Lumber Co. until their closing, at which time he became employed at Barnard’s Nursing Home maintenance department for 25 years. On the side, Earl enjoyed carpentry work, even building his own home on Honey St. in Baring. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Earl was a life member of North American Hunting Club and was active with the St. Croix Fire House restoration. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Campbell and a son-in-law, Garnett MacDougall. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Jackie Bartlett; five children, Richard Bartlett of Cooper, Michael Bartlett and his wife Elizabeth of Baring, Cheryl McClure of Clinton, Annette Merry of Skowhegan, and Michelle MacDougall of St. Stephen, N.B.; his mother-in-law Barbara McArthur of Alexander; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Gertrude Johnson of Calais, Lillian Tracy of St. Stephen, N.B., Ellen Johnson and her husband Gene of St. Stephen, N.B., and Wilma “Billie” Parks and her husband Thomas of Calais; a brother Ralph Bartlett and his wife Betty of New Hampshire; life-time friend Sonny Towns of Baring; many nieces and nephews; and his two faithful canine companions, Meko and Myranda. A graveside service will be held in the Baring Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
